Current Role

A resource to associates across the firm in real estate, mergers and acquisitions, and publicly traded companies, Bryan is committed to helping clients and associates succeed. Bryan leads the southeast Michigan Real Estate Industry group and is responsible for managing federal tax consulting and compliance engagements throughout Rehmann’s Troy office.

Experience

Bryan has more than 30 years of experience providing tax consulting and compliance services to clients throughout the United States, primarily serving the manufacturing and real estate industries. He has a proven track record of providing innovative solutions and proactive tax planning ideas, with broad experience in the tax and business issues faced by real estate developers and operators. He has unique experience in the planning and compliance of a publicly traded real estate investment trust (REIT) with a market capitalization in excess of $700 million.

Due to his extensive knowledge in the industry, Bryan has spoken on real estate related tax issues and has been published or quoted in publications such as “Time.com” throughout his career. He was instrumental in developing the state tax portion of the REIT Tax Compendium for the National Association of Real Estate Trusts.

Bryan is actively involved with professional organizations including the American Bar Association (taxation division), Oakland County Bar Association and State Bar Association of Michigan (taxation section), among others.

A Closer Look

  • For one client, Bryan discovered a highly unique solution that enabled them to deduct a $50 million bad debt payment as an ordinary deduction.
  • With the ability to guide clients on entity formation and proper structuring of their businesses, Bryan recommended a structure to a client that provided them creditor protection during a lawsuit.
  • Highly experienced in audit representation and collection work, Bryan represented a publicly traded pharmaceutical company in three IRS audits that ended favorably.
